June Recap & Post-Preaching Retrospective

“Ghosts of a 90’s Summer” - new print available in the shop

How is it July?? June was a super busy month, focusing on lots of art, getting the studio set up, opening my Etsy shop, and preaching on Genesis 22.

June Recap

June included making digital collages in Procreate…(see below)

A church window / portal?

How butterflies could greet each other?

I also focused a ton on getting my studio set up….look how cute it is!

Chartreuse (my favorite color) gradient windows

I also listed a ton of digital downloads in the shop and also opened my Etsy storefront, too. Like everything, it’s a work in progress.

I preached on June 28 at my beautiful not-so-little church, The Table Indy. My sermon audio can be found here. I preached on Genesis 22 primarily, which was tricky because the sacrifice of Isaac is a bizarre story. My main takeaway from this time preaching is that sometimes, simple is best. There’s no doubt a ton of complexity in the narrative, and I don’t have time to preach about everything in a 10 minute homily, so my primary strategy was to acknowledge the questions we have about the narrative, but not try to have any answers. Sometimes there’s only mystery, and we can only embrace that mystery.

Finally, my friends Good Lord, Rose! (@goodlordrose) played a killer show and I got to take photos! Go check out their latest single, Roots, on any and all of the streaming services available.

I love my friends.

That’s pretty much it for June! A busy, full, good month. If you had asked me in January or February if I’d be a working artist with her own studio I would have laughed at you. But is anything too wonderful for God?

In July here’s what’s next:

Open House: Sunday, July 12, after church-ish (roughly 12:30 or so) til 5. Stop by to check out my originals and prints, enjoy some food, and just hang out.

Encaustic: I am really drawn to encaustic painting as a medium and this is the month I am going to start exploring it for real, now that the studio is up and running. I have made a handful of prototype designs in Procreate that I am excited to translate into this medium. Layers of wax over some saree silk, confetti, glitter….oh I can’t wait.

With love and thankfulness,
