Beholding and Becoming Ourselves: A Sacramental View of Photography

I love to capture people in unscripted, unposed, honest, real moments. Your faces as you read a story to your kids snuggled on your couch. Happy tears at a surprise birthday party. A laugh that almost makes you pee your pants (but doesn’t, lol). Real emotion without feeling like you need to perform or be “on” for the camera.

I believe that photography is sacramental - we behold who we are, and then we become the beauty that we see in ourselves, our lives, our relationships. Photos are a way to set apart parts of our lives and offer them up.

I also love to do experimental, fun, painterly photos playing with light, using shutter drag effects and long exposure times. I also love to shoot street and nature photography - whatever is beautiful or striking that catches my eye and imagination.

As far as gear goes, I shoot a Nikon z7ii primarily with my 50mm prime lens.

What people are saying

“Alissa did some family photos for me and my 3 kids last fall and they are superb….She was calm and organized during the photo shoot, which balanced out the chaos of 3 teen/preteen boys plus our dog at a state park. highly recommend.”

“Love our photos by Alissa!! It was great just being ourselves and the 4 kids running pretty wild…[she] captured the real essence of our loud, boisterous family!”
