Emmaus Road Triptych
Original mixed media paintings on canvas, 2026.
Three 8”x8” framed canvases that hold a single poem between them - each stanza on a different canvas, fragments of paper and ink pressed into layered acrylic, surrounded by real, dried, and pressed flowers integrated into the poetry of the piece.
The triptych is based on the Revised Common Lectionary readings from Easter 3, Year A, which includes the journey on the road to Emmaus.
The embedded poem, titled, What Age Begins, asks: what are we entering into now, post-resurrection?
What age begins when
His Body, Bread, broken,
opens eyes to behold ourselves
born anew with hearts aflame?
Revealed at the end of the ages,
with the Cup of Salvation
and burning hearts freshly born,
we begin as strangers
beholding who we are
then vanishing from sight,
we become who we receive,
His Body, Bread, broken.
In keeping with the Layered Magic concept, these paintings have been built up through layers of acrylic, ink, pressed botanicals, and handwritten text fragments.
