Waking Up | Original Poppy Painting on Wood Panel | Alissa Birkel
In this small field of poppies, some blooms are already lifting toward a pink-and-peach morning sky. Others still have their heads bowed, taking their time. One stem is bent all the way over, mid-stretch. Nobody is in a hurry, and nobody is behind.
The petals are layered in deep magenta and crimson with a shimmer that catches the light as you move past. It shows up as copper and gold at some angles and disappears at others. That's my favorite kind of morning light: it's there before you quite notice it.
Waking Up is for anyone who's slow to start, coming back to life after a long season.
