What Age Begins

I had an idea to write a poem every week based on the Revised Common Lectionary readings for that particular Sunday. Today is Easter 3 Year A and the readings can be found here: Acts 2:14a, 36-41, Psalm 116: 1-4, 12-19, 1 Peter 1:17-23, and Luke 24:13-25.

Fun fact: I made a triptych of paintings for sale in my shop that embeds fragments of this poem into the paint alongside real dried and pressed flowers. You can check it out in the Layered Magic shop here.

What age begins when

His Body, Bread, broken,

opens eyes to behold ourselves

born anew with hearts aflame?

Revealed at the end of the ages,

with the Cup of Salvation

and burning hearts freshly born,

we begin as strangers

beholding who we are

then vanishing from sight,

we become who we receive,

His Body, Bread, broken.
